Blues and navies are the most broadly "safe" fountain pen colors: legible, professional, and unlikely to raise eyebrows in an office. This ink will behave predictably on most fountain-pen-friendly paper. Cheap, highly absorbent paper (standard copier paper) will dull any ink's saturation and can cause feathering or bleed-through with wetter nibs.

Kawasaki Bunguten is a stationery shop in Ogaki, Gifu Prefecture, Japan, founded in 1923. Its owner is renowned in the Japanese fountain pen community as an ink blender who has created more than 1,000 original inks over the years, with several hundred colors, many themed on local Ogaki culture and literature, available in the shop's dedicated ink corner.
